Welcome To Human BioSystems!
Our goal is to be a leader in the development of technologies that provide safe, high quality, and longer shelf life of biological materials that are used in saving lives.
Today, the storage time for blood platelets, the congealing component of blood, is limited to a government-mandated period of 5 days after they are donated. In Japan the storage time is only 3 days. These short shelf lives create logistical problems and losses due to outdating (discarding). With two patents issued and others pending, we are researching and developing unique methods and technologies to preserve platelets for extended periods and intend to market a platelet preservation system that is safe, practical and cost effective. HBS technology and equipment may allow blood centers and hospitals to recover more than $500 million in lost revenue annually in North America, Western Europe and Japan.
The HBS system for extending the preservation time of donor organs, currently under development, is expected to cost less and provide several vital advantages and benefits over currently available preservation solutions. Further development, if successful, should increase the shelf life of organs from a few hours to days, and possibly years, while maintaining viability, quality and safety. Longer shelf life of organs should be beneficial to patients, surgeons, hospitals and insurance companies. Our market opportunity is estimated to exceed $300 million in the year 2005.
